AI Assistant (Claude)
In addition to this documentation, there is a Claude skill — a package of instructions and references that lets Claude help you write, review, and debug RTU-X scripts directly in a conversation, even if you've never used the language before.
The skill doesn't replace this Script page: it's a reference guide meant for Claude to use, verified line by line against the firmware and the RTU-X compiler, with correct and incorrect examples of the most common mistakes.
What you can ask it to do
- Write a script from scratch based on a plain-language description ("I need to read a Modbus flow meter and send an SMS alert if it goes over a threshold").
- Review an existing script for behavioral bugs (not just syntax errors) — for example, not handling
slave_error, overusingstatic, or blocking a task without yielding control. - Explain why a script fails to compile, or why it behaves differently than expected.
- Answer specific questions about
sleep(), system variables, functions (pid, alarm, filter, flow, etc.), or language limits.
How to install it
- Download the package: rtu-x-scripting.skill.
- Upload it to Claude as a skill (on claude.ai, from your account's or organization's Skills/Capabilities settings) or, if you use Claude Code, unzip it into your project's skills folder.
- From then on, any conversation that mentions the RTU-X, includes a pasted script, or asks for help programming the device will trigger the skill automatically.
If you'd rather have the content as a folder of files instead of a package (for example, to review it before installing), it's also available unzipped: rtu-x-scripting.zip.
The skill is designed to minimize trips to the field: it prioritizes catching behavioral errors (not just compilation errors) — the kind of bug an already-installed device can't self-correct.
The skill's content is updated whenever the scripting language or the firmware that interprets it changes. If you notice something out of date, let the Nettra team know.
